GOLD COAST

The Gold Coast is the second wealthiest urban area in the United States after the Upper East Side of New York City. A modest neighborhood until 1885 when Potter Palmer built a fanciful castle on Lake Shore Drive, this newly developed North side became the center for residences of the elite. Today, the neighborhood is a wonderful mix of stately older homes, gracious historic apartment buildings, townhouses, and beautiful newer buildings.
