Hope your Summer is off to a great start! In this edition of the Domos Report, we’re looking at how tariffs are impacting the housing market. With rising costs and economic uncertainty, buyers and sellers are feeling the pressure—but real estate remains a smart, stable investment. Here’s what you need to know.

 

How should you prepare your home for sale?

My approach is simple and proven: present your home in the best possible condition for what it is, and price it accordingly. I generally do not recommend remodeling before selling.

  1. Declutter—this matters a lot

  2. Keep surfaces clean and simple: one object per table, countertop, or shelf

  3. Organize closets so they feel spacious, orderly, and functional. Matching hangers and storage boxes make a difference

  4. Edit and streamline bookshelves

  5. Remove any furniture you won’t be taking with you. Today’s aesthetic leans clean, minimal and modern. Remove worn or bulky pieces

  6. Touch up paint and neutralize any bold or highly personal colors

  7. Take down most family photos to minimize distractions

  8. Schedule a deep clean just before listing. The goal is spotless and sparkling

  9. Address repairs, safety issues, visible problems or known material defects, all which should be resolved before going to market

  10. I typically don’t stage—homes look too sterile and generic. We don’t want blah! We want some personal items left in the property to have visual interest, warmth, to make it look like a home.
